Former Sky Blues defender dies aged 88

Brian Nicholas, a skilful wing-half who played more than 100 games for Coventry City, died peacefully yesterday.

Brian joined Coventry after playing for Queens Park Rangers and Chelsea and also represented England Schoolboys. He played 121 games for the Bantams and was an important part of the side that won promotion from Division Four in 1959.

He left for Rugby Town in 1962 and followed that with a spell as player-manager at Hinckley Town.

After he retired, Brian worked at the Massey Ferguson factory in Coventry and would be a regular at Sky Blues matches, including in recent years alongside fellow former players in the lounges and at Legends Days.
