Halloween in Coventry is a treat for small businesses

Halloween is just around the corner and FarGo Village started preparing for the spooky season a week ahead.

Independent makers were invited to display and sell their products including decorations, sweets, candles, soaps and more – all sustainable and cruelty-free.

The village was buzzing in a Halloween-themed style, with eerie décor and upbeat music.

Unfortunately, due to the covid restrictions, such markets and celebrations for October 31 were not held last year.

The independent makers expressed their delight at finally being able to show their handcrafted goods in person and meet with customers, as face-to-face encounters are always preferable when presenting a small business.

“I think there’s much more appreciation now than there has ever been. Particularly in the last 18 months people are thinking about small businesses and try to buy local”, said Abbie Green, one of the makers.

“People appreciate the fact that you make time and effort to make it”, said Caroline who does eco-friendly candles.

The small business owners said that when non-essential shops were closed during lockdown the demand for hand-crafted goods went higher.

They are optimistic about the future of their businesses and said that people are becoming more aware of the importance of supporting small businesses and are more likely to purchase because the products are all environmentally friendly and sustainable.

The market went on until 5 pm on Saturday October 23rd . However FarGo Village has prepared more for Halloween. Those looking forward to trick-or-treating this year will have the opportunity to do so at FarGo on Sunday from 3 pm to 6 pm.

Coventry has also got into the spooky spirit. For this year's monster trail, people are invited to take a chance on spotting all of the huge creatures hidden across town. Looking for one at FarGo Village is a good place to start.
