Welcoming Felix the Phoenix to Coventry
By April Ogiamien
Coventry University will be receiving a new mascot next month. Voted for by students earlier this year, Felix the Phoenix is the latest addition from the Student Union to the campus, to serve as a symbol for the CU group community.
The push for a new mascot was spearheaded by Activities Officer, Julia Reszka, who said, “When I was thinking about my plans for the year I decided I’d like to work on creating a CU group spirit and bringing back excitement. I was thinking of the best way to do it and a mascot came to mind. We do a lot of sports activities and have a lot of events going on so having a mascot would be lovely.
I pitched it to my colleagues who liked the idea, so we started planning his creation and now we’re getting ready to welcome him this week! We’re hoping he’ll be used as much as possible at sporting events and welcome events, with staff and students also having the chance to borrow him for their events.”
The mascot costume is being created by Coventry resident Angela Hallam, whose mascots have been featured on The One Show, the BBC’s Football League and include the Sky Blues very own Sky Blue Sam.
Students will have the chance to meet Felix for the first time on 1 November 2023, when he debuts!
