The football club-led charity – Sky Blues In The Community (SBitC) – has announced that they will be helping students achieve a Foundation Degree in Community Football Coaching and Development.

This development gives people who might not be able to afford the usual coaching route a chance to earn a recognized qualification. Students won’t just be stuck in a classroom — they’ll gain hands-on experience working on real community projects, making it easier to apply their skills in the real world.

The course is delivered in partnership with the University of South Wales and offers students the chance to learn everything from coaching techniques to health and wellbeing, and working with different groups in the community. It’s perfect for those passionate about sports and helping others.

However, questions need to be asked as to why Coventry University wasn’t selected. Probably because the University of South Wales provide similar courses and Coventry does not. But there are questions to be asked as to why Coventry, a very football-orientated city, does not provide these options at their own university.

As well as learning, students get the chance to work alongside the charity’s coaches, supporting projects that use football to improve people’s lives — including school sports, disability sessions, and health programmes.

It’s also a great way to open doors to future jobs in sports coaching, development, or community work.

Sky Blues in the Community hopes this new opportunity will help young people in Coventry and beyond kick-start their careers in sports — while giving back to their local community.
