Chesterton Windmill has been a beloved part of Warwickshire history for nearly 400 years however, in 2021 cracks started to appear in the wood meaning its sails were removed. For four years the Windmill sat with little work and attention however, just in time for summer & long country walks, this has finally changed.
At the end of 2024 specialist conservation team, Owlsworth Conservation started building new sails for the windmill and finally, four years later the wait is now over and the Windmill is fitted with new sails. The restoration team used a hoist to help bring the windmill back to life, ropes and pulleys were also used to move the stocks and sails.
It’s one of only four Windmills in the UK that is grade I listed and is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The installation of these new sails marks an exciting and important day for local residents and Warwickshire history.
