An interview with Hani Mosammat

For the upcoming Mix-up ’24, there are multiple aspiring artists and bands all fighting for the spotlight. But one musician shines above the others. Hanni Mosammat is a second year Popular music, song writing and performance student at Coventry University, Whilst reserved and shy, her voice is incredibly powerful. With a passion for storytelling woven into her song writing, Her Upcoming song “Dandelion” is a powerful Ballad that will be sure to wow audiences.

I spoke with Hanni about her song and career Before the event:

Louis: So whats’ the song about?

Hanni: So I’m in a long distance relationship so I wrote it when I like, started realising I had feelings for him. And I ended up getting to meet him as like, a lover in Venice. So its around like, that origin story (laughs).

Louis: What made you get into song writing?

Hanni: I didn't really have the best childhood, so music was one of those outputs for me and I just always wanted to make something that resonates with people, and would help maybe discover something new about yourself y’know?

Louis: So what music artists do you think inspired you the most or influenced you the most?

Hanni: That’s really interesting question, 'cause I don't have like a specific artist I think in terms of …vibe, because the song I just played is very much deep in your feelings, like very relaxed. Even so, I would say Eden. He's from Ireland and he makes techno  but it's also mixed with indie so it has that same really emotionally impactful vibe.

Louis: Where do you think you'll be a few years after university?

Hanni: Hopefully song writing,  or composing music for advertising and film, as I am studying film music as well. As long as whatever I compose can get into movies and other things 'cause you know I'm going for the emotional vibe (laughs).

Louis: What projects do you have going on outside of Uni?

Hanni: All of my projects I kind of pitch into uni so it's a bit mixed in together, but like I mentioned before I'm pitching some of my work to the lecturers.. and songwriters in the industry too. It’s nice to get feedback from both so yeah.

Louis: Just to finish off with a fun question - What kind of cocktail would you see yourself as?

Hanni: Ooooh! I don’t drink but, but I like to think I’m cute so I think a strawberry daiquiri. It’s kind of a mix of rum, lime and strawberry. Maybe some other things too but I’m not sure! (laughs).

Hanni has another upcoming single called “you”, cowritten with her boyfriend. which is a dark, indie folk track to contrast with Dandelion. More information can be found on her socials: @Hunni.916 on Instagram.
