Coventry Bishop to become the Dean of Windsor

Approved for the position back in July, Right Reverend Christopher Cocksworth recently left his post at Coventry Cathedral to join St George’s chapel with his farewell service having been attended by more than 1,000 faith leaders and civic dignitaries, says the city and the region will forever hold a special place in his heart.

Previously Dr Cocksworth had held in position in Coventry for 15 years. When addressing his promotion he said:

“It is a great honour to have been appointed to take on this ministry with the particular responsibilities it brings, and I am very grateful to His Majesty for the opportunity.”

“I was not expecting to leave the Diocese of Coventry until my retirement from full-time ministry, and I know it will not be easy to move on from the Diocese [Which] has been my great joy and privilege to serve as Bishop for the last fifteen years. The people of Coventry, Warwickshire and our slice of Solihull, together with all our church communities, church schools, chaplaincies, our remarkable cathedral and all our partnerships with so many other churches, charities, faith communities and organisations, will always remain in my heart.”

The Right Reverend officially starts his new position when the installation service is held at Windsor Castle on the 23rd this month. His Royal Highness will host a reception in St George's Hall, among the Royal apartments.

“It will be for the Dean to lead any christenings, weddings and funerals among members of the Royal Family and the wider community of Windsor. Mr Cocksworth takes on such a venerated clerical position with a level of familiarity to fall back on having met King Charles on numerous occasions.” said the King's most senior domestic chaplain.
