Mind’s incredible 100-mile challenge has come to an end

Mind is a mental health charity that aims to make mental health an everyday priority across England and Wales. They offer help to people whenever they may need it, providing information, advice, and local services. Mind gives advice and support to empower those experiencing a mental health problem, they campaign to improve services, raise awareness, and promote understanding of mental health. Mind’s vision is to not “give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect”.

The 100 miles in March challenge aims to gain more support for Mind’s involvement in supporting mental health. The challenge saw over three thousand people choose to walk, jog, run or wheel 100 miles throughout the month of March to raise money to go towards support for better mental health. The fundraising is there to help people struggling from mental health problems to gain the support they need from MIND who will then have the ability to be on the other end of the phone for people, be in local communities, and campaign towards helping the 1 in 4 people in the UK that will experience a mental health problem within this year.

We spoke to the organisation Mind, about why people should join the challenge: “By raising funds for Mind, you're joining our fight for better, more equal mental health services for all. Your fundraising will help us be there for anyone who needs it, when they need it, by providing support and access to the right information.” By the end of the challenge, the majority of those who participated managed to raise over £1000 each.

Those who signed up received a free Mind t-shirt to show support for the charity whilst collecting their miles. Those who raised £150 and over will also be sent an exclusive 100 miles medal to say thank you for their efforts across the challenge.

Truli Dudley, 24, participated in the challenge and said:

“I have struggled significantly with my mental health as well as most of my best friends over the years and being able to give back to such an amazing charity feels good”.  She went on to say, “I hope that with more donations this charity can continue to do its invaluable work and hopefully help any other people in need of support, charities like Mind are the reason some people will decide against suicide and live another day and we should all promote their amazing work.”

With the challenge now having ended Mind have said “we want to say one last thank you to each and every one of you for your hard work and determination throughout this challenge. You've been an amazing team and it´s been an absolute pleasure to be part of it.”
