Unacceptable, abusive texts surface from Sir Gavin Williamson to colleague, ex-Chief Whip, Wendy Morton on Sunday.

Downing Street confirmed the Prime Minister knew about a complaint against Sir Gavin before appointing him a Cabinet member, however, did not see the messages.

The texts in question by Sir Gavin Williamson to Wendy Morton were about her excluding some MPs from the Queen’s funeral. These texts have gone under investigation by Tory HQ.

The Liberal Democrats have called for Mr Williamson to be sacked.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s cabinet minister Oliver Dowden stated the texts were “heat of the moment” as it was quite a difficult time.

The texts appear to have Williamson complaining that MPs who weren’t “favoured” by Ms Truss were being excluded from the ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

Sir Gavin is quoted in the Sunday Times to have said: “I of course regret getting frusytayed about the way colleagues and I felt we were being treated. I am happy to speak with Wendy and I hope to work positively with her in the future as I have in the past.”

Downing Street are handling the complaint but have no comments to state about the situation.
