New traffic management systems are to be put in place in Coventry City centre.

Part of a series of experimental traffic orders, the restrictions are to be piloted and are set to last 18 months, if effective, these measures could become a permanent fixture and

Under the new restrictions, drivers will face a fine if caught driving on Hales Street, Trinity Street, Palmers Lane, Little Park Street, and The Bruges.

Drivers who use these routes at certain times of day could incur fines of as much as £70.

This comes as Coventry attempts to reduce its emissions

The Highstreet is to remain open for the foreseeable future however the council have reported they predict most of the traffic will be headed out of town as the newly imposed restrictions come into force.

Changes are to make to make Much Park Steet and Bayley Lane two way as to access St Mary’s Steet.

Reflecting on the change, local Councillor Patricia Heatherton noted the new restrictions would, in her view, benefit those with mobility problems by reducing the business of the streets.
