Threat Level Raised In Northern Ireland

The terrorism threat level in Northern Ireland has been raised from substantial to severe after the recent rise in dissident republican activity.

This decision is based on an MI5 intelligence assessment and was announced by Northern Ireland Secretary Chris Heaton-Harris.

Threat levels are designed to indicate the likelihood of a terrorist attack. There are five rankings ranging from low to critical, severe is one level below critical.
