27 Club: Jim Morrison

The 27 Club is an unfortunate list of celebrities who have died from various causes, all including drugs and substance abuse at the age of 27.

Music fans, including myself, are aware of this tragic reality. But are also not blind to the fact that multiple artists need them in order for their creative persona to shine and produce the high-quality music that they are known for.

 But is it true?

Jim Morrison was an American singer, poet and songwriter who was the lead vocalist of the rock band, The Doors.

The Doors were extremely influential in the world of rock during the 60’s and have continued to inspire fans for decades. Songs by the band have been interpreted by other musicians, such as ‘Alabama Song’ which was covered by David Bowie in 1978.

Jim Morrison was also a poet, which was apparent in his lyricism when writing hits such as ‘People are Strange’, ‘Light My Fire’ and ‘The End’.

The song ‘Light My Fire’ has been interpreted to mean lighting a marijuana cigarette, as well as having sexual connotations.
