Coventry City Hosts as busy as bees
Coventry City Hosts have been as busy as bees making Coventry City of Culture 2021 possible. The distinguish blue uniforms and friendly faces of the volunteers are hard to miss.
There are now over 3200 city hosts who take shifts going around the city to keep everyone well informed about all the exciting events coming to Coventry. But it’s not all just about that, being a city host means so much more to those involved.
Imagine being able to say... "I was part of that".
Andrew Boneham, named city host for the month of October, says that being part of this community is one of the best experiences in his life. He keeps records of every event and exhibit he attended and takes detailed notes of each shift he does, in the hopes of one day being able to compile everything into a book.
Andrew has been volunteering since June and has done 23 shifts as a city host and 18 as a team leader. You can meet him on Saturdays when his team is doing the city roaming. Andrew will always greet you with a big smile on his face and tell you all about the upcoming events making sure you make the most of your time out during the weekend.
It’s difficult to keep up with everything that’s been going on in Coventry in the last 12 months especially when most of the exhibitions and activities are happening in different parts of the city.
“We are the link for the general public and visitors to connect with all the various events”, said Andrew.
