Coventry Sparkles with Christmas Magic: The Holiday Season Arrives in Full Swing!
Christmas officially started for Coventry last night with the arrival of Coventry’s first ever Festival of Christmas.
The city centre saw an evening of exciting events spreading across popular places like Broadgate and Millenium Place, combining classic events with creative performances and light shows.
The event replaced the city’s much-loved Christmas light switch-on, which the council said could not proceed due to financial pressures.
Performances and entertainment was spread across the city centre including meetings with polar bears pip and Inka and elves, aerial dancers, storytelling with Santa and fire dancing.
Cllr Patricia Hetherton, cabinet member for City Services said: “The arrival of our big wheel, Festival of Christmas and Christmas market shows we are committed to having a Christmas offer in the city centre that residents can enjoy.”
Coventry’s Christmas market also opened on the 15th of November, with Coventry’s popular 100ft big wheel operating for families to enjoy a breathtaking view above the historic city of Coventry. The festive market will be open til the 5th of January 2025, excluding Christmas Day, offering a range of tasty treats, drinks and one-of-a-kind gifts.
