I’m a celebrity 2024 kicked off last night with stars Jane Moore, Danny jones, Oti Mabuse, Colleen Rooney, Tulisa Contostavlos, Alan Halsall, Barry McGuigan, Melvin Odoom, Dean McCullough, and GK Barry. The celebs were thrown (quite literally) into the first episode sky diving to meet their fellow contestants and pairing off for a race to be camp leader. Leaving viewers entertained from GK’s screeching to Colleen and Dean sinking their canoe.
However, fans have been questioning the shows casting choices after GK Barry a UK Tik Toker was announced as part of the line up. Grace Keeling (GK Barry) began her career on social media with an impressive 3.6 Million followers on TikTok however has expanded her career through her podcast “saving grace” as well as being the youngest panellist on Loose women and took part in 2023 stand up to cancer, Don’t Look Down.
Viewers across the UK have differing opinions allowing influencers to be classed as celebrities. Following Nella Roses’ appearance in the 2023 line up. Nella lasted 17 days in camp taking part in trials and mingling with known names such as Nigel Farage, josie Gibson and Fred Siriex.
The family show has been running for 22 years and had celebrities from all backgrounds and professions but the last 2 years they have included social media influencers, but many argue this is benefiting the show with an impressive 8 million viewers tuning in last night compared to the average 7 million. Questioning if the increase is due to these personalities as they attract a younger audience or is the show just increasing in popularity?
