Coventry city of culture and the Christmas events

With Christmas around the corner and decoration already up Coventry has revealed its City of Culture line up to celebrate the Christmas season.

Coventry’s Cathedral ruins will be turned into an ice rink this year from the 26th of November to the 9 of January. The event ‘Coventry Glides’ has been set by Coventry City Council and Coventry City of Culture. This year entry to the ice rink will start at five pounds and the event will be running 7 days a week. An evening event called ‘Becoming Fungi, Becoming Forest’ will be starting at 19:00pm-21:00 pm on the 2nd of December. The event is inspired by Merlin Sheldrake’s book Entangled Life where Coventry City is reimagined to have invisible connection between humans, fungi, trees, and microbes. The event will cost £10 for entry and the event will start from various location within Coventry City and those attending will have to be above the age of 12. 

Fargo Village will also be holding a screening of the movie ‘Another Christmas’ directed by Samona Olanipekun. The movie will highlight the different stories of Christmas without the plenty and excess that the season is associated with. And the event will be held on Thursday the 16thDecember at 19:00pm. The Stories will be told by Coventry’s residents who will share their different perspectives of Christmas that is often unheard and airbrushed out of the Christmas picture.

‘Magical Elves’ will by making their rounds in Coventry on Saturday the 11th Of December and the event will be held at the Hagard Community Centre. The comedic duo Will Gerald and Wallace will be hosting the 60 minute show.
