Coventry University student, 19, found dead in accommodation

Trinity View - Student accommodation

A man has been found dead in a student accommodation linked to Coventry University.

Emergency services found the 19-year-old Coventry University student dead at the scene, after being called to Trinity View accommodation on Thursday (October 21).

West Midland’s Police have stated the death isn’t being treated as suspicious.

West Midland’s Ambulance Service issued a statement saying “We were called to a residential property on Friars Road, Coventry at 9.07pm on Thursday 21st October.

A paramedic officer attended and sadly found one man deceased on scene."

Suicide is a common cause of death for university students. A student is lost to suicide every four days in Britain, based on BBC data from 2019.

A Coventry University spokesperson, said: “We are deeply saddened by the death of one of our students in a privately managed student hall of residence.”

We encourage anyone affected by this tragedy to access the support facilities in place within and outside of the University.

Full Interview with Vicki Rybinski

Coventry University Mental Health Advisor, Vickie Rybinski, tells us University “can be a really isolating time for students, especially if they don’t know where to get the support from”.

There’s a lot of financial pressure… then you’ve got the academic pressures as well and I think that that kind of combination can culminate in to students thinking that there’s no other choice for them, unfortunately”.

NHS mental health practitioner, Chris Abela, encourages everyone to reach out to the sources available: “There’s no trophy for suffering in silence, please speak up.”
