Six pints of Guinness - You should walk home

James Bove, 43, worker for Jaguar Land Rover, smashed his Mercedes into a fence, a cable box and then another car before deciding its best to walk home.

James Bove confessed at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court, he claimed to have drunk ‘six glasses of Guinness’ on Saturday 10th October. He went to sleep at around 3pm but woke up around five hours later and went for a drive. Apparently, he was driving to pick up a takeaway.

When he came to Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 20th October, he failed a breath test and admitted drink-driving. Bove was fined £583 and to pay a £233 victim surcharge and £135 costs making a total of £951 in total and disqualified from driving for 16 months.

Prosecutor Navneet Ahluwalia said: “The defendant drove off his drive and hit the fence. He drove off and then collided into an electric box. The defendant continued and collided into a Vauxhall Corsa.”

The neighbour reported Bove and when the police arrived, he blew 61 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath which reduced to 52 microgrammes when tested again in custody.
