Drink spiking still a concern for West Midlands Police

West Midlands Police have launched the Safer Streets campaign, which asks men to “be upstanders for women’s safety, not a bystander to intimidation and violence”.

WMP reported that they conducted an inspection on Snobs in Birmingham to see what measures they’ve put in place to try and help put a stop to drink spiking incidents. Snobs have been using strips to detect whether drinks have been tampered with, as well as covers for cups and bottle stops.

“Between 15 November and 21 November we investigated 11 reports of people being spiked with drugs. 91% (10) of the offences involved drinks being spiked, with one victim reporting they were injected by a needle”.

Advice about staying safe during nights out includes not leaving drinks unattended, drinking soft drinks along with alcoholic ones to stay hydrated and looking out for suspicious people and behaviour.
